Vegan Bakery NYC Guide By Neighborhood

Let’s get to the reviews! We will go over our top vegan bakery picks in each neighborhood for 2022. Keep in mind that some picks will be restaurants and bakeries with great vegan options, but they may not be 100% vegan.

Vegan Bakery Brooklyn

Brooklyn Whiskers – 100% vegan bakery NYC

Neighborhood: Bushwick

100% vegan – Yes

Are you looking for a vegan-friendly bakery in Brooklyn? Look no further than Brooklyn Whiskers. This Bushwick cafe specializes in delicious vegan pastries, cakes, and cookies. While the sandwiches and other savory items on the menu are also good, the desserts shine here.

The cookies are some of the best you’ll ever taste – vegan or not – and the coffee cakes are simply out of this world. I usually stop by here specifically for their coffee cake, only one time, it was a bit stale and dry, but every other 20 times or so, it has been perfection.

The same goes for their other desserts; they’re usually pretty spot-on, but there’s a miss now and then. Either way, it’s worth checking out if you’re in the area and have a sweet tooth.

If you are looking for vegan cake in Brooklyn, this vegan Brooklyn restaurant has plenty to choose from!

Clementine – 100% Vegan Bakery Brooklyn (Vegan Scones)

Neighborhood: Clinton Hill

100% vegan – Yes

Clementine makes muffins, cinnamon rolls, and scones well-known around the neighborhood. On my most recent visit, I got the black and white cookie, rainbow sprinkle cookie, the banana scone, and cinnamon roll.

The cinnamon roll was terrific the following day when I reheated it with my morning coffee. Wow, it made waking up early worth it! The black and white cookie was also delicious, but it was a little dry; the highlights for me were both the scone and cinnamon roll.

The sprinkle cookie was a little oily, but it had the perfect sprinkles. I recommend this vegan bakery – Brooklyn, if you’re in the area and looking for some vegan baked goods. They have plenty of outdoor seating, making coming here from far away much better.

Dun-well Doughnuts

Neighborhood: Bushwick

100% vegan – Yes

This cute shop in Bushwick is 100% vegan and makes some of the best vegan doughnuts in Brooklyn. Flavors rotate daily, but they always have a few vegan staples, like the maple and classic glazed. You’ll find all kinds of fun flavors reminiscent of Voodoo doughnuts in Portland, OR, but my favorite is the blueberry.

Happy Zoe Vegan Bakery NYC

Neighborhood: Greenpoint

100% vegan – Yes

You’ve probably had a few whoopie pies if you are from Maine. Since whoopie pies are two soft chocolate cookies with a cream filling, it’s hard to find or make them vegan. Now you can find them made vegan at Happy Zoe’s in Greenpoint.

These whoopie pies and the rest of their menu are all vegan and 100% delicious. I’ve never been a fan of cheesecake, vegan or not, but if that’s your thing, you’ll be happy to know that they specialize in vegan cheesecake.

Terms of Endearment – Vegan Bakery NYC (best vegan croissants)

Neighborhood: Williamsburg

100% vegan – Yes

Terms of Endearment is an all-vegan Williamsburg Brooklyn bakery famed for its delicious vegan pastries and croissants. If you love unique sandwiches, fresh-baked goodies like cookies, breakfast buns, croissants, or pies, this vegan bakery in NYC is for you.

My non-vegan friends were visiting from out of town and had no idea this bakery was vegan. They were blown away by the deliciousness of the pastries and dubbed it the best vegan croissant in the world.

I couldn’t agree more – the croissants are fluffy and flaky, and the cookies are melt-in-your-mouth good. So if you’re ever in Brooklyn, be sure to swing by this fantastic vegan cafe for some of the best vegan treats. One of the top vegan bakeries in NYC! Best vegan bakery in Williamsburg, and perhaps the only one!

The Good Batch

Neighborhood: Clinton Hill

100% vegan – No

You can find them in Clinton Hill and at various Smorsgeburgs around Brooklyn. They are not a 100% vegan bakery, but they have one of the world’s best vegan, gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. So if you want a cookie that will make your day, this is the spot.

As far as the vegan options go, they usually have a tahini chocolate chunk, a peanut butter, and a trail mix option. However, their ice cream sandwiches are the thing that they are most recognized for.

best vegan bakery NYC

Vegan Bakery Manhattan – Vegan Bakery NYC

Plant-Baked -We ❤️ this Vegan Bakery NYC

Neighborhood: East Village

100% vegan – Yes

You may walk by Plant Baked and miss it; that’s what I almost did before trying one of their scones. One day, I just walked by with my dog and saw this cute window with plenty of amazing-looking pastries. I love places I can order without walking in since I often have my dog with me. The berry scone was calling my name, and it did not disappoint.

I’ve been back since for their famous chocolate cherry cookies, which are gooey, crisp on the outside, and just plain delicious. The vegan croissants at this vegan bakery – in Manhattan are just as famous as the ones at Terms of Endearment. There’s a reason that this NYC vegan bakery gets 5 solid stars across all of the review platforms, but don’t take my word for it; go check it out for yourself.

My only complaint is that they are not open every day! It’s usually a Monday or a Tuesday when I am in the neighborhood; anyway, it’s worth the wait.

Confectionery!

Neighborhood: East Village

100% vegan – Yes

Sweet Maresa’s and Lagusta’s Luscious’ Confectionery! is a collaborative sweet shop. I order some fantastic chocolate bonbon boxes from Lagusta’s Luscious in upstate NY a few times a year. However, having an option to pick up some of these limited edition season bonbons in the city is incredible.

I learned about these fantastic seasonal bonbon combinations on the Sagittarian Matters podcast. One of the owners: Lagusta, frequently makes a guest appearance with tons of vegan food reviews and life observations. Listen to an interview with Lagusta here.

The macarons are vegan because I never had a macaron until 5 years ago; once I did, I was hooked and surprised at how much I liked them.

Tell your family, friends, and loved ones what you want for your birthday! – A monthly subscription box to these fantastic bonbons. Their bonbons have unique flavors like hazelnut, tahini, apple, chestnut, yuzu, and black sesame.

Molly’s Cupcakes

Neighborhood: West Village

100% vegan – No

Molly’s cupcakes is an outstanding NYC bakery (+ they have other nationwide locations) that offers vegan chocolate and vegan vanilla cupcakes. I tried the vegan chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting, and it was super moist and rich.

The chocolate cupcake had the perfect amount of frosting – not too sweet. I love a cupcake with frosting that is not overly sweet. Overall, Molly’s cupcakes are some of the best vegan cupcakes I’ve ever had! Check out Molly’s for some delicious vegan treats if you’re in NYC!

Peacefood café

Neighborhood: Upper West Side and East Village

100% vegan – Yes

Yes, Peacefood Cafe is an entirely vegan restaurant. However, they are also a great vegan bakery in NYC. Their Magic cookies got me coming back to the restaurant in the first place. They are hands down one of my favorite cookies I’ve ever had – vegan or non-vegan!

Hit up Peacefood for the best all-vegan brunch NYC offers, but make sure you take a few Magic cookies home. You’ll thank me later!

Blue Neige – an NYC Vegan Bakery

Neighborhood: East Harlem

100% vegan – Yes

If you need to order a custom cake or a plate of vegan cookies for an event, Blue Neige vegan bakery NYC is the place to support. While it’s not a traditional bakery that you can walk in and choose, you order online, and then they deliver.

Give this new vegan bakery a shot; we think your events will taste a little sweeter. Nowadays, with so many food allergies and preferences, it’s essential to offer vegan and gluten-free desserts at any gathering. That’s where a place like Blue Neige will shine and save the day.

LifeThyme – Hidden Vegan Bakery NYC in the Back of the Store

Neighborhood: West Village

100% vegan – No

LifeThyme may look like an unassuming health food store on 6th ave, but they have a fantastic vegan bakery in the back. Their cakes are moist and delicious, and they have a wide variety of cupcakes and cookies to choose from. Many years ago, when I was a strict gluten-free vegan, LifeThyme was one of the only places where you could find any decent vegan, gluten-free desserts.

My favorites are the vegan carrot cake and the double chocolate chip cookie. When you walk in the front door, make sure to walk past all of the produce and refrigerated drinks; at the very back, you’ll find this hidden gem of a vegan NYC bakery!

Queens Vegan Bakeries

Rose Valley Cakes

Neighborhood: Richmond Hill

100% vegan – Yes

As you can see from our list, Brooklyn has the most vegan Bakeries, but if you live in Queens, check out Rose Valley Cakes. They are a family-owned bakery that can make you a vegan wedding cake, serve you a single slice, or cater to your child’s birthday party with some cake pops!

Martha’s Country Bakery

Neighborhood: Forest Hills

100% vegan – No

The unique thing about Martha’s is that they are open late; we love that you can come here for some after-dinner dessert up until midnight. Most of the other bakeries on our list close early. There are quite a few Martha’s locations all over the city, so no matter what neighborhood you are in, you can find one that will be open.

The majority of their cakes are not vegan, but you will find a good selection of vegan cakes and cookies. Remember that Martha’s uses a lot of sugar in their frosting, so you won’t be disappointed if you like a sweet cake. However, if you want your cakes on the not-so-sweet side, you’ll be disappointed. So check them out for yourself! Being open late can be a great spot if you’re going to go out but don’t want to end up in a bar.
